Regents Prep Vocabulary

HW: Define the following and use in sentences, personal testaments, or create a poem/rap.
1. banal clinches- a boring comment that is very of ten made and is therefore not original and not interesting.
s: The narrator of the Christopher Columbus documentation made banal clinches through out the entire documentation.

s: During the beginning of the year, students may experience flux in their schedule.

s: Some disscussion can cause bedevil if not chosen properly.

s: When you are in High School, it may be hard to choose a correct vocation.
5. idealistic- of or pertaining to idealism or idealists.
s: When it come to English Regents Prep, Ms. Hyde has the idealistic thinking of a teacher who wants her students to pass the Regents.
6. embark- to broad a ship, aircraft, or other vechicle as for a journey.
s: After the merchants had traded, they had to embark to go to their homeland with their new goods.
7. arduous- requiring great exertion; laborious; difficult.
s: Taking the SATs requires arduous effort and preperation.
8. novitiate- the state or period of being a beginner in anything.
s: The novitiate was a bit nervous in her first day of the job.
9. ethical- pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality.
s: The Bible is very clear as to ethical matters.
10. pragmatic- of or pertaining to a practical point of view or practical onsiderations.
s: My mother is pragmatic in the conversations we have.
11.competent- having suitable or sufficient skills, knowledge, experience etc. for some purpose.
s: I think that I am competent enough to be in this Honors class.
12.preeminent- superior.
s: We must respect those preminent of us.
13. formidable- causing fear, apprehension, or dread.
s: I recently had a fight with a man at the train station and the found myself in an akward moment because he was formidable.
14.maneuver- a planned and regulated movement or evolution of troops, warships etc.
s: People maueuvered for the Civil Rights Movement.\
